Worldview Analysis And Personal Inventory assignment

Worldview Analysis And Personal Inventory assignment

Individuals have personal views about the world that are influenced by factors like relationships, religion, their upbringing and education among others. worldview analysis encourages and empowers an individual to take ownership of their perspective, especially in healthcare provision. People are considered as energy that can be manipulates through postmodernism to attain a balance (Carey, 2018). An individual’s worldview in respect to different aspects of life define their perspective and overall approach to issues in healthcare and how they handle their patients. The purpose of this paper is to offer a reflection about my worldview by responding to certain questions from a personal perspective.

Christian Perspective of the Nature of Spirituality and Ethics in Contrast to in Health Care

Christianity defines spirituality as a having a sense of connection to an entity bigger than oneself, that provides meaning to life, create value system and is transcendent. Christians also define spirituality as the practice of belief and values that reflect the Biblical teachings with all aspects of one’s life linked to their relationship with God (Chinedu, 2018). Therefore, Christians acknowledge the role of God as the basis for their perspective on . They also advance that ethical beliefs in health care depend on the understanding that all human beings are God’s children and have inherent dignity. Physicians and other health care providers are not saviors but used by God to show his natural powers. The implication is that while healthcare providers may offer a healing environment through medical interventions, the nature of spirituality advances that God heals holistically.

Postmodern relativism rejects the universal set of rules or beliefs. For those who believe in postmodern relativism, there is no “one size fits all” for any situation, including healthcare interventions and treatment. According to the perspective, there is no absolute truth. All the truth is relative and with a new paradigm that the world comprises of non-religious energy, everything can be manipulated, controlled and channeled whichever way one wants to attain certain goals. According to this view, ethical issues are subjective (Porteous, 2019). The implication is that postmodern relativism differs from Christian perspective in various ways. Christianity advances the need for ethical rules to prevent harm to patients based on scientific evidence and principles and beliefs of effective Christian morality. Conversely, postmodern relativism emphasizes the uniqueness of an individual’s set of beliefs and rules. For instance, anti-vaccination perspective among people indicates a postmodern relativism perspective as individuals fail to believe in science and prevent harm to others.

Scientism and Two Main Arguments Against It

Scientism is the belief that science has solutions to all questions that are meaningful in individual’s and society’s life. Scientism is the worldwide speculative approach to the universe and its meaning about the ultimate reality. Proponents of scientism advance that if something is not known scientifically, the it is not known at all, and the only way to have true beliefs about anything is to know them scientifically (Burnett, 2021). There are two main arguments against scientism. The first is that this belied is self-refuting philosophy, and secondly, there are explicit limitations to science. The first argument against scientism is associated with the foundational thesis of belief in science as the only way to attain knowledge of the world. The approach is self-refuting since it cannot be true as there is no scientific proof that knowledge only comes through scientific inventions or thinking. The scientism thesis failures based on its truth test (Moreland, 2018).  The second argument against scientism is that science is not the ultimate way of getting knowledge in general. No scientific proofs exist of ethics and ethics cannot be tested scientifically. The implication is that while science and its scientism philosophy are wonderful and offer description of the way things are and practicalities, scientism has no authority to tell society and individuals what they ought to do from a moral perspective. There are certain issues and things that explicit facts cannot prove in this world, morals and ethics in healthcare being related to reasons the concept cannot prove. The implication is that scientism does not acknowledge the existence of God as the source of ethical moral principles.

Personal Perspective and Worldview

i).  Ultimate Reality

The ultimate reality is the full acknowledgement and acceptance of life situation with all its current truths as it appears. Reality is founded on one’s perspective of what ought to be, what is, and what is the common good. Reality is based on physical matter and energy and the spiritual belief that the energy is present in everything and each aspect of human, animal, plants and even objects. The reality implores each individual to focus on what they believe creates the energy and leads to their happiness (Burnett, 2021). Many individuals run away from the truth without knowing that a problem shared is half solved. Choosing to accept reality leads to effective deployment and use of energy that one has and ensures that they attain their goals.

ii). Nature of the Universe

The nature of the universe is the natural physical world where individuals experience realities and life activities that propel them to better positions in life. The universe has several aspects that include human beings and the earth as well as the solar system. The universe was created by a supernatural power based on different aspects of spirituality. I believe that God created the universe and gave man the energy to transcend its different components and control it for his benefit. Man continues to discover the universe through scientific inventions and other aspects of research to have better ways of protecting nature as God’s gift for his own sustenance.

iii). Human Being

Human being denotes to a living individual that possesses a soul and sense of reasoning or logic. A human being is a higher level of animal and has robust energy than other inhabitants that allows him to explore the physical universe and attain enlightenment. Human beings transcend the scientific and biological aspects to encompass unique abilities based on their energy and spirituality. More fundamentally, a human being is God’s creation created in his image and likeness. As God’s creation, human beings have the ability to love and show love to others to complete the foundation of society. Human beings have a higher level of understanding things from different aspects and perspective and profess their innate abilities through their faiths and beliefs (Carey, 2018). Human beings are unique based on the inherent rights like being born free with a free will instituted in them by God.

iv). Knowledge

Skills and experience are gained through training and practical situations in life whereas knowledge comes from acquiring information. Individuals gain knowledge through formal education and knowledge encompasses new information that allows one to develop a certain perspective and make informed decisions in life. Therefore, knowledge is powerful as it equips one with high positive energy and ability to transform their thinking capacities to generate solutions to issues affecting them. It is not possible for one to have knowledge on everything. However, knowledge allows one to understand different aspects of their life, the existing reality, and development of a certain perspective in life that helps them to understand their world better. I seek knowledge through training and advanced education to be in a position to make better and informed choices and decisions. The implication is that knowledge is a critical indicator of how one forms their worldviews and perception on issues in life.

v). Basis of Ethics

My basis of ethics is through upbringing by my parents, lessons and experiences in life through the journey of enlightenment and religious teachings and practices. One’s appreciation of morality emanated from teachings and learning inculcated into them by different people in life, particularly family and friends. Ethics are essential in making decisions as they accord me the opportunity to say yes or no, and understand right and wrong. The implication is that ethics lay the foundation of one’s ability to distinguish right and wrong.

vi). Purpose of My Existence

The main reason and purpose of my existence is to serve God, humanity and ensure that each person gets the right treatment irrespective of their social status in society. I believe in positive living and doing what is good to any person that I know deserves it. I think that how I treat people determines how others will treat me in different situations. The implication is that we do not live for ourselves alone but also for others in our lives. I purpose to serve people to glorify God’s name in all situations and demonstrate the inherent good in humanity.

Conclusion

Worldviews form the basis of how we understand situations and ourselves as healthcare providers. Through the different worldviews that different healthcare providers possess, they can offer patient-centered care, enhance their cultural competence and provide optimal care to patients based on their needs and preferences. Personal views on different aspects of living allow one to enhance their ability to solve culturally-sensitive dilemmas that present in their nursing practice.
