Jessica believes in moral agency since she will determine the child’s moral standing. She decides whether the fetus has rights comparable to those of a live child or none at all, as the mother does (Brown, 2018). Jessica encounters intrapersonal conflict in the case study as a result of the financial hardship the child will impose and her religious convictions that every life is sacred. This exemplifies the moral agency principle. She acts as the moral agent, a person who makes the best decision for herself (Brown, 2018). Marco also employs the concept of moral agency. His concern that the pregnancy would interfere with his goals and financial security demonstrates this. His proposal is affected by the notion since he decides to support Jessica regardless of her decision, despite the fact that the kid will cause financial issues.
Maria’s faith in the concept of relationships is demonstrated when she asks Jessica to continue the pregnancy and allow God’s purpose to unfold. She also urges Jessica to consider her responsibilities as a mother. Because of Maria’s perception of Jessica’s character, she believes she has a connection with God and the unborn. Because of the links that give the fetus moral standing, abortion is wrong. It also demonstrates the divine command idea, which holds God to be the moral creator.
According to characteristics, in order to have moral standing, something or someone must be able to exhibit a level of awareness and rationality that a fetus cannot (Brown, 2018). Given that he provided the family with every option, I believe Dr. Wilson employs the concept of cognitive characteristics. However, because to his medical knowledge of the constraints, he obtained the strongest support regarding the possibility of abortion. This theory holds that the fetus has no moral status and can thus be aborted.
The Theory I Support and How It Might Affect the Action Recommendation
I concur with the notion of sentience and relationship, which contends that moral status is determined by our relationships with other living things and that moral status is possessed by sentient creatures. My recommendation for this case study would be influenced by the theory of sentience and relationship since I think a fetus has full moral rights and ought to be considered as an independent person from the mother. Jessica, in my perspective, has a duty to safeguard the fetus and a duty to God not to take human life. As a result, I would counsel Jessica to keep the pregnancy going and let the fetus mature because the child would reflect God’s likeness. In addition, only God has the power to give life, and nobody else has that power.
Conclusion
According to the Christian understanding of human nature, each human being is a living image of God. Giving back to others brings happiness to the human being. The Christian perspective on human persons is consistent with the theory of cognitive properties, which holds that humans have cognition in comparison to other creatures. Jessica and Marco were guided by the theory of moral agency in their case study. This forces them to choose between terminating the pregnancy and continuing it. Maria believes in the relationship theory, which influences her advice to Jessica to keep the pregnancy. Finally, Dr. Wilson employs the Cognitive properties theory, which influences him to support abortion in Jessica’s case.

She and her husband Marco have been in the United States for the last three years and have finally earned enough money to move out of their Aunt Maria’s home and into an apartment of their own. Dr. Wilson, frustrated with the direction of the conversation, informs Marco that such a decision is not his. Dr. Wilson walks back down the hall, where he sees Aunt Maria awkwardly praying with Jessica and calling the priest. Dr. Wilson then gently but briefly informs Jessica of the diagnosis and
Jessica is torn between her hopes of a better socioeconomic position and increased independence, along with her conviction that all life is sacred. Marco will support Jessica in whatever decision she makes but is finding it difficult not to view the pregnancy and the prospects of a disabled child as a burden and a barrier to their economic security and plans. Dr. Wilson lays out all of the options but clearly makes his view known that abortion is “scientifically” and medically a wise choice in this situation. Aunt Maria pleads with Jessica to follow through with the pregnancy and allow what “God intends” to take place and urges Jessica to think of her responsibility as a mother.
