Interdisciplinary Team in Health Promotion
Interdisciplinary teams play a critical role in based on different medical conditions. An interdisciplinary team comprises of different health and medical professionals with defined and related roles and responsibilities. Injury prevention among the elderly requires effective interventions based on the roles and responsibilities played by the different stakeholders. and nurse practitioners are the frontline care providers who will monitor patients and identify possible injuries and risks to injuries because of their health condition and status. Dieticians and nutritionists will offer advice and recommend better diets and foods for the elderly to reduce susceptibility to injuries by increasing their energy levels and other critical aspects of body functioning (Health Research & Educational Trust, 2018). Educators will create and disseminate awareness programs and materials in collaboration with community leaders who understand the types of hazards that can hinder effective education.
Physicians play a key role of assessing and diagnosing the types of injuries that individual elderly patients may be susceptible to and developing interventions based on their situations. For instance, injuries associated with falls among the elderly are more prevalent and physicians can seek information about their frequency and possible course of action to prevent their occurrence. Therapists are important components of injury prevention, especially falls as they perform assessments that evaluate balance, strength, endurance, and different aspects of motion and susceptibility for falls (Cancinotto et al., 2019). For instance, they look at gait steadiness and speed, and conduct tests that offer a foundation for performance. Individual patients and their families are essential members of the team as they can share information and history about potential causes of injuries like falls (Grossman et al., 2018). Many individual patients and their families may ignore previous injuries suffered due to different events, including falls, and it would be critical to get sufficient information to mitigate future susceptibility.

Susie is concerned about balancing her career demands and her family’s needs, especially now that her elderly and chronically ill mother will require assistance. She is also unsure how she feels about the role reversal, having to now be the primary caregiver for her mother. How can the nurse, who is caring for this family, help them deal with the changes they are about to go through? What characteristics would lead a provider to suspect domestic violence, child abuse, or elder abuse is taking place within a family? Discuss your facility’s procedure for reporting these types of abuse.
Domestic violence entails a pattern of abuse that a current or former partner, boyfriend, girlfriend or spouse uses to control the behavior of the other (Toivo, 2016). The abuse can be in the form of financial abuse, domestic violence, neglect, psychological abuse, physical harm or sexual abuse. Any deliberate harm or exploitation of a person under the age of 18 is considered child abuse. It takes various forms, which frequently happen at the same time. It can be emotional, physical, medical or sexual abuse (Adigun & Hatcher, 2019). Elder abuse entails any form of abuse resulting in harm or loss to an old person (Schilling & Zolotor, 2018). For the above cases, there are various signs for healthcare providers to look at, which include injuries or bruises that seem to result from punching, choking, or being thrown down. Also, there may be sprained wrists, red, black eyes or purple marks at the neck, which are common in violent relationships. The victims of domestic violence try to hide bruises with clothing, makeup or sunglasses. They will at times give excuses like falling or being accident-prone. However, the gravity of the harm does not usually relate with their explanation.
To report the above cases, our facility documents the signs by taking note of the victim’s changes in their behavior, taking photos of injuries, describing victim’s injuries, writing statements from the witnesses and writing statements from the victim. The above signs help to either approve or refute a case. If the evidence collected leads the concerned authorities to believe that exploitation may have occurred, it may help in ensuring that such cases are handled quickly by the respective bodies. Depending on the sternness of the abuse, how it is reported and to whom, the identity of the person making the report remains confidential. This makes it easier for experts to report signs of abuse, especially if they are doubtful that it has been committed by a partner.

Health education is the act of a nurse teaching an individual the risks and possible outcomes associated with their illness or condition (Whitehead, 2018). Nurses give the tools and knowledge to the patient to encourage the patient to create behavioral changes. If the patient utilizes the tools given to them, they participate in positive behavioral health changes resulting in active health promotion.
“However, the meaning of this term is debated, particularly in nursing. Some nurses might believe that, because they are healthcare practitioners working in healthcare services, that they are ‘by default’ automatically involved in health promotion activities; however, this is often not the case. Instead, they are more likely to be engaging in health education activities; that is, simply providing individuals with health-related information, rather than seeking to empower individuals, families, groups and communities” (Whitehead, 2018)
The nursing process allows a structured approach to investigate deficiencies in the patient’s health, diagnose a risk factor/ readiness to learn/change, and create a plan tailored to patients’ beliefs/values/resources to help guide the education and materials appropriate for improved health outcomes. After implementing a plan, the nurse will evaluate if changes were successful and change accordingly.
Today gun violence is the most prevalent contemporary issue facing everyone. I feel that nobody can say this doesn’t affect them somehow. Even other countries are being affected by the violence in the United States right now.
“It is critical to listen regardless of the topic” (MacMillan, 2022). To assist in identifying significant problems affecting patients’ lives and well-being, we must be patient and listen. Let the patient be the life’s teacher; we are the students. Children who express mental health tend to have parents who cause similar mental health problems. When it comes to children who are stressed as a result of recent current events, parents, by nature, hurt for their children through empathy. We created health screenings based on the current issues confronting communities. When covid struck, healthcare increased its emphasis on infection screening. When major societal disruptions occur, such as gun violence, we must increase screening and education on available community resources to promote mental health.
Plans in schools could include small group discussions with school counselors or a phycologist. Information to assist parents in identifying signs or symptoms that their child may be suffering from emotional or mental disturbances. This can also include simple communication strategies that can assist parents in creating an environment in which children can express their feelings and concerns (Gregory, 2022).
