Imagine the following scenario: You are taking the evidence-based practice course and one of your classmates shares an EBP project draft with you. You notice that some of the research has not been cited correctly or even at all. When you approach your classmate, the response is that “no one will notice, and it is not a big deal anyway.” What are your next steps in speaking with your classmate? Consider how this could reflect on the credibility and integrity of the individuals involved, the university, and the profession.
Online and in class have their pros and cons. It’s easier to debate conversations and get to know people, put names with faces and share the same anxieties in person. Sometimes it’s just comforting to talk to someone in the same boat you’re in. Online classes give the flexibility of going to class on your time and no one else’s. I enjoy reading the post pertaining to the weekly questions. I think it would be helpful to have one or two questions during the 8 weeks that would provide support/encouragement to the classmates and up lift each other. I enjoy the weekly CAT questions and reading the responses to those.
I enjoyed the discussion comparing the nursing theories. It was interesting reading the different theories classmates chose that pertain to their future role. Many students reflected on the positions they are in now and how they apply theory in their current practice. I also liked writing the worldview paper. I didn’t find it difficult to write since it was based on my beliefs.
The one thing I have really been grateful for is how Professor Lugten-Hyser has provided all the tools for success in this class. The information posts and templates have been extremely helpful when preparing and doing the assignments. I hope future instructors take the time to equip the students with what they need to not just pass, but to be highly successful. (235 words)

Thank you kindly Sherrill and it shows that you take advantage of the information! In a core class I feel it is important to provide as much information as I can to get all off to a good start. To the class, be sure to print off the APA 7 guidelines and even the templates then you’ll just have to change name of the title and sections and will still have a decent template. Do remember that the APA 7 guidelines/the professional edition can change depending on the instructor. Some do not require a heading in graduate papers and some are ok with the URLs in the references being underlined and being blue. Either way is appropriate and is up to the discretion of the instructor so make sure to ask your future graduate instructors, if they don’t give you guidelines, what their preferences are in these two areas of APA 7 the professional or graduate edition.
Blessings
Professor,
I will definitely check with my instructors going forward what they prefer.
I am hoping to become a nurse educator at some point after graduation. The thought of plagiarism does concern me. According to Carter et al. (2019) plagiarism is an important ethical issue. They state one of the challenges for student nurses is the lack of preparation regarding APA format. Because this can be intimidating it can lead to unintentional plagiarism such as parenthetical citation errors and incorrect referencing of sources.
The possible solution proposed in this issue is students research available resources to them. Discussion boards, group activities, and quizzes on APA format can assist the educator where the weaknesses are at within the students. The educator can intervene by providing additional practice assignments to help students become better in the areas of weakness (Carter et al., 2019).
It is important for the students to understand the honesty and ethical standards. It places the reputation of the nursing profession which is one of the most trusted professions. The concern also remains if the student plagiarizes during higher education, this unethical behavior can spill over into the nursing practice (Carter et al., 2019).
APA is well introduced at the bachelor’s level. I wrote several papers APA. I don’t remember the information in the beginning of the program going this in depth as this program has. I understand the concept of why it’s being done, but it should start at the bachelor’s level. I had to figure out a lot on my own. PERRLA is one of the greatest word platforms there is. It formats your paper, provides the title page, page numbers and does your references in the format it’s supposed to be in. So, for the students in this program I highly recommend purchasing PERRLA. It will save you a lot of tears and frustration. (310 words)
