One innovation that my hospital is trialing is the use of a Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) program. This program is through the American Heart Association (AHA) that delivers quarterly training to support the confidence of quality CPR skills. The factor that is driving this innovation trial period is the lack of confidence in the nurses on the acute care floor to perform high-quality CPR. This fits under the indicator of innovation of perception and mood (Waxman, 2017). This is because of the lack of confidence for acute care staff to safely perform high-quality CPR. Another factor is increased concern from the code team about the ability of the acute care floor to run an effective code until the code team arrives. This factor fits under the indicator of innovation of failure (Waxman, 2017). This is because the acute care staff not being able to run a code efficiently and effectively until the code team arrives.
On the Neuro Acute Care Unit, many of our patients are on delirium precautions. However, it is overlooked in the orders frequently, and staff members other than nurses and doctors, are unaware of the precautions in place. This creates an inconsistency in care because the delirium precautions are not being properly implemented. An innovation that could be implemented could be a new method of bringing awareness to the delirium precaution order. This method could be placing a sign outside of the door that states delirium precautions. The factor that is driving this innovation is the lack of awareness, creating a lower quality of care for our patients. One indicator of innovation in process needs (Waxman, 2017). The new signs hanging on the outside of the doors changes the process of information sharing within the healthcare team. With the sign and the order for delirium precautions, there are multiple ways the information is getting to all staff. Another indicator of innovation is failure (Waxman, 2017). Staff is failing to follow the delirium precaution order due to not seeing the order or the information not getting passed along. With the innovation of the sign, there is a higher chance of success due to the acknowledgment of delirium precaution.

Hi Elyse! Considering your mention of quality of CPR skills I also feel that demographic changes can fit in here. Demographic changes could indicate a need for change in education tailored to those demographics. If the education is tailored directly to the demographic needs of the group, this means training is more effective and those coming out of the training will feel more confident in their new knowledge and skill set, ready to apply it. Considering delirium precautions and process of order implementation, I feel that another driver of this innovation is increased safety needs. I agree that lack of awareness also creates lower quality of care but my main concern is safety. a change in process of implementation will help with this I also feel that an indicator of innovation here is change in perception, mood, meaning, and or new knowledge. Obtaining new knowledge or education on implementation of delirium precautions will improve safety and quality of patient care.
