Discussion: Health Promotion Model used to Initiate Behavioral Changes
Nursing theories refer to the innovative and rigorous constitution of ideas that project the purposeful, tentative, and methodical perception of a given phenomenon. Through the application of nursing theories, nurses and other healthcare professionals have been able to acquire knowledge critical in improving general care for patients. Johnson’s theory- to reduce stress so the patient can move more easily through the recovery process and Hall’s theory- to provide care and comfort to the patient during the disease process are some of the theories that relate to patient care. The two theories can also be used to incite behavioral changes among patients.
Johnson’s theory focuses on how patients adapt to illnesses. The theory is often applied to transform patients’ behaviors. Johnson’s theory is often used in the management of stress among patients so as to enhance treatment and recovery processes (Holaday, 2021). The theory perceives a patient’s behavior as a system with different parts that interact. Usually, patients experience different emotional and psychological challenges that interfere with the treatment processes. Johnson’s theory has therefore been applied under different circumstances to facilitate treatment and recovery processes. One advantage of Johnson’s theory is the existence of a framework of references for the healthcare professionals concerned with specific client behaviors. The disadvantage of Johnson’s theory lies in the complexity that arises from the possible interrelationships among the behavioral systems. I would integrate Jonson’s theory in developing behavioral patterns for the management of mentally ill patients.
In Hall’s theory, there is the recognition of the fact that comfort is essential in the success of the treatment process. The theory is mostly applied to stabilize the moods and psychologically prepare patients for the treatment processes, particularly during surgery. The theory is also applicable in reducing excitement that is associated with some patients, particularly the ones with mental health problems (Jose & Parappallil, 2019). The advantage of Hall’s theory is the integration of assessment procedures that can be applied in the analysis of different aspects of care. The disadvantage lies in the three aspects that ought to be applied independently to manage behaviors in the course of treatment. I would apply the theory to calm the moods of anxious patients while managing their health conditions.
