Assignment: Capella University Antisocial or Psychopathic Offenders Paper
Question Description
Antisocial or Psychopathic Offenders
COMPETENCIES ADDRESSED IN THIS DISCUSSION
Competency 1: Analyze environmental adjustment challenges faced by offenders.
Competency 2: Assess intervention techniques that impact offender’s ability to function within correctional or community-based settings.
Competency 4: Determine appropriate levels of intervention in corrections or community-based settings.
INTRODUCTION
Most offenders in correctional facilities do not meet the DSM-5 (American Psychiatric Association, 2013) criteria of severely antisocial or psychopathic. However, as documented throughout the textbook, funding shortages and lack of mental health treatment for incarcerated criminals is woefully inadequate. This makes you more likely to encounter offenders who are diagnosed with Antisocial Personality Disorder (APD) and prone to violent behavior.
As a corrections counselor, you must recognize the complexity of treating of offenders with antisocial and APD diagnoses. Working with this unique population requires advanced clinical training, strong supervision, and staff support. Effective interventions for severely antisocial and psychopathic offenders remain elusive. This does not mean, however, that they are unworthy of help and support in the correctional environment.
INSTRUCTIONS
For this discussion:
Explain why it is easier to intervene with offenders who are not diagnosed as psychopathic or severely antisocial.
Identify the special skills correctional staff must have to work effectively and safely with severely antisocial offenders.
Reflect on the unit reading about building safe rapport with psychopaths. Discuss your thoughts related to these recommendations. Which concepts stand out? Why?

You must proofread your paper. But do not strictly rely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort on your part and you can expect your grade to suffer accordingly. Papers with numerous misspelled words and grammatical mistakes will be penalized. Read over your paper – in silence and then aloud – before handing it in and make corrections as necessary. Often it is advantageous to have a friend proofread your paper for obvious errors. Handwritten corrections are preferable to uncorrected mistakes.
Use a standard 10 to 12 point (10 to 12 characters per inch) typeface. Smaller or compressed type and papers with small margins or single-spacing are hard to read. It is better to let your essay run over the recommended number of pages than to try to compress it into fewer pages.
Likewise, large type, large margins, large indentations, triple-spacing, increased leading (space between lines), increased kerning (space between letters), and any other such attempts at “padding” to increase the length of a paper are unacceptable, wasteful of trees, and will not fool your professor.
The paper must be neatly formatted, double-spaced with a one-inch margin on the top, bottom, and sides of each page. When submitting hard copy, be sure to use white paper and print out using dark ink. If it is hard to read your essay, it will also be hard to follow your argument.
Your post addresses one of the most pertinent issues in the United States healthcare system. Nursing shortage is a major issue affecting delivery of healthcare in the United States. High rate of retirement, turn over, and shortage of qualified educators contribute to inadequately staffed facilities. I agree with you that due to shortage, employed nurses experience burnout since they have to work for long hours. However, the problem can be evaluated from multiple angles to appreciate the need for increased enrollment in training schools, recruitment, and mentorship. I would consider the plight of healthcare facilities amidst the shortage because they are compelled to stretch the existing workforce. Bakhamis et al. (2019) agree that in hospitals with high patient flow, nurses are assigned more patients, which contributes to burnout. In other words, even hospitals are overwhelmed by the issue.
Your post also makes an instrumental observation on the role of diminished mentorship on nursing shortage. Due to burnout and absenteeism, experienced practitioners have limited time to guide young nurses, which has a direct impact on the quality of healthcare services. A study conducted by de Cordova et al. (2022) to explore the magnitude of burnout revealed that after COVID-19, 36.5% of nurses were prepared to leave their occupations within a year. Deductively, the quality of training and mentorship will be affected further. Although some hospitals have began offering incentives for new nurses, as you have observed, the strategy is not sustainable without emphasizing increased enrollment in nursing schools. Ideally, the solution to the problem should have a long-term approach involving multiple stakeholders. Without adequate staffing, Americans will continue experiencing services that are not commensurate with the public expenditure on healthcare.
LopesWrite Policy
For assignments that need to be submitted to LopesWrite, please be sure you have received your report and Similarity Index (SI) percentage BEFORE you do a “final submit” to me.
Once you have received your report, please review it. This report will show you grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors that can easily be fixed. Take the extra few minutes to review instead of getting counted off for these mistakes.
Review your similarities. Did you forget to cite something? Did you not paraphrase well enough? Is your paper made up of someone else’s thoughts more than your own?
Visit the Writing Center in the Student Success Center, under the Resources tab in LoudCloud for tips on improving your paper and SI score.
